Gulf of Maine Summer Institute 2000
During 2000-01 ECW's environmental education program :Our Watershed Novices in Training" Project OWN IT, will once again be growing.  We began working under the Gulf of Maine Institute Without Wall (GMIWW) program in 1999, which is  an organization promoting change in local schools to encourage the knowledge transfer of hands-on environmental studies in all grades throughout schools in NB, NS, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Under the GMIWW, we will be running a Summer Institute in July.  This will be a one-week session bringing students, parents and teachers from the GMIWW provinces and states together in Yarmouth.  The students will engage in interactive hands-on 'fun' environmental programs.  From there all will travel to New Hampshire to take part in the Gulf of Maine Council anniversary celebration this year.

The students will make a presentation based on what they have learned and/or developed during their school and summer session.  The Canada Millennium funds and the Gulf of Maine Council are two of the funding partners for this program.  We have numerous school programs which we implement each year in local schools and now we will have the ability to share them and our experiences with schools from these other states and provinces through a Interactive Web Site for the students which will be completed by ECW in June 2000.  Students participating in GMIWW will exchange study results and experiences on-line.
