Petitcodiac Watershed Monitoring Group


The Petitcodiac River watershed is a major river system located in southeastern New Brunswick. The boundaries of the watershed extend from its headwaters in the Anagance River to the Petitcodiac River where it flows into the Shepody Bay. Its main tributaries include Little, North , Anagance and Pollett River, Turtle, Halls, Mill, Weldon and Fox Creek and Humphreys and Rabbit Brook.

There are approximately 125,000 people residing within the boundaries of the watershed, the most important cities being Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview. Some of the villages include Hillsborough, Petitcodiac, Salisbury, Alma, Dorchester and Memramcook.

Land use in the watershed is primarily agricultural. Agricultural activities include dairy farming and mixed livestock farming in the upper reaches of the watershed. There is also some forestry in the upper watershed. A large portion of the watershed is urban and a major portion of the economic activity is centered in and around the city of Moncton

The watershed covers approximately 3000 square kilometers in area.
